Atago Shrine

愛宕神社
Our company was founded by Prince Tokugawa Ieyasu at the behest of the shogun as the guardian god of fire prevention and disaster prevention in Edo when he opened the shogunate in Edo. He was revered by the shogunate and donated shrines, Niomon gates, Sakashita main gates, etc., and received the gift of money each time at festivals. In addition, the Buddha of Prince Tokugawa Ieyasu, "Katsugun Jizo Bodhisattva" (Gyokisaku), is also specially enshrined. (Undisclosed) It was destroyed by fire every time the Great Edo Fire, the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the Tokyo Air Raid, but the current shrine was rebuilt in Showa 33. In the presence of the third shogun Iemitsu in the eleventh year of Kanei, Heikuro Morisumi Kugaki of the Shikoku Marugame Domain rode up the front otozaka (86 steps) on horseback, prayed to the shrine for national well-being, and then presented the plum blossoms of Genpei that bloomed in the precincts to the hand-folded shogun, making him famous as the best equestrian master in Japan, and the name "Stone Steps of Advancement" spread throughout the country. In the first year of Mannobu, the ronin of Mito went to Sakurada Gate after praying in front of the gods, and it was also a gathering place for the so-called "Strange Outside Sakurada Gate" that fulfilled its purpose by defeating Oroi Naoya.
