Enmeiji Temple

延命寺
Until now, it was part of the precincts of the Senju Kaiko-in Temple. In the Meiji era, the temple was built by separating the temple from which it was divided into north and south by the laying of the Joban Line, and which had effectively become an enclave. The precincts of this temple are located on the site of the Kozukahara Prison, and there is a statue of Jizo Bodhisattva called "Beheaded Jizo" to mourn the death of the deceased. In addition, although the sect to which this temple belongs is the Pure Land sect, there is also a title tower inscribed with the inscription "Nanmu Myo Ho Lotus Sutra" written in a script unique to the Nichiren sect called Beard Title. There are two punishment centers in Edo: the Suzugamori Prison in Shinagawa and the Kozukahara Prison in Senju. The prison in Kotsukahara has a frontage of 60 meters (108 meters) and a depth of more than 30 meters (54 meters), and by the time the prison was abolished at the beginning of the Meiji era, punishments such as crucifixion, beheading, and prison gates were carried out. The decapitated jizo was built in the first year of Kanbo (1741) to commemorate the deceased.
