Entsuji Temple

円通寺
According to temple legends, this temple was opened in 791 (10th year of the Japanese calendar) by Sakagami Tamura Maro. At the time of the Meiji Restoration, the priest of this temple cremated the members of the Shogi Corps who died in the Ueno War in 1868 (Keio 4) in the area where the statue of Takamori Saigo is currently located in Ueno Park. For this reason, the main gate (black gate) of Ueno Kaneiji Temple, which was near the place where the cremation was performed, was relocated to this temple, and there is also a grave of a member of the Shogi Corps who died.
