Kitano Shrine

北野神社
In the first year of Kanbun (1661), Suwa Shrine was dedicated to the residence of Sugihara Shigeemon. Due to the flooding of the Kure River, the sacred body of the god of heaven enshrined in Yaguchi Village was often swept away from the forest of Tenjinyama at the foot of Ikegami, and it was repeatedly necessary to stay in front of Sugihara Shigeemon in the south of Kitakamata Village, and each time it was returned to Tenjin Forest, but for the seventh time, in the second year of Kaei (1849), after negotiating with Yaguchi Village, he built a shrine next to the Suwa Shrine in the Sugihara family area and enshrined it. During the Meiji era, it was combined with Suwa Shrine and collectively called Kitano Shrine. The precincts were dedicated by the Sugihara family. In the past, it was located on the north side of the Kure River, but due to renovation work, it became the south side as it is today.
