Sengakuji Temple

Sengakuji Temple is a temple of the Soto sect. There are two main temples of the Soto sect, one is Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture, where Zen Master Dogen was held, and the other is Sojiji Temple in Tsurumi, Yokohama. Zen Master Dōgen's main work is a ninety-five-volume book called "Shōhō Ganzo," which expresses the essence of Buddhism. By the way, Sengakuji Temple is a temple founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu in Sotosakurada in the seventeenth year of Keicho (1612) in honor of "Monan Sōseki Kazuhisa". (Near the current Hotel Okura) However, it was destroyed by the great fire of Kanei in the eighteenth year of Kanei (1641). And it moved to the current place of Takanawa . When the shogun Iemitsu saw that the reconstruction of Takanawa Sengakuji Temple was not going well, he ordered the five daimyo of Mori, Asano, Kuchiki, Tamba, and Mizutani to relocate to Takanawa and the Sengakuji Temple was completed. The Asano family and Sengakuji have known each other since this time. It is generally famous for the grave of Yoshishi Ako, but since its founding, it has been fully equipped with seven temples, and has been famous as a grove where nearly 200 monks from various countries visit, and as one of the three temples and the three temples of Soto Buddhism. The family tradition has been inherited, and although the number is small, there are still young monks who are studying Buddhism at university and practicing at Sengakuji.
