Zuienji Temple
瑞円寺Zuienji Temple is located on a hill in Sendagaya and the slope leading to the gate is named Enokizaka. In addition, on the north side of the temple is a slope called Kannonzaka, which leads to the Hatomori Hachiman Shrine, where Zuienji was a separate temple. In Enokisaka, before the Greater East Asia War, there was a huge Enoki tree called "Oman-Enoki"[4]. This huge tree is divided into two parts at the top, and because the crotch is hollow in the shape of a human standing upright, it is seen as a woman's shadow, and it is said that many courtesans and landladies around Naito Shinjuku came to worship it because it became an object of sexual worship and genital worship. The name "Oman-enoki" comes from the fact that Oman, the birth mother of Tokugawa Yorinobu (the first generation of the Kishu Tokugawa family), who founded Senjuin, worshipped this tree. Since she was also the aunt of the abbot of Zuienji, it is said that she often visited this Enoki, which was considered to be a spiritual tree.
